Book
The Sami are the unique people who have lived in the Kola Peninsula throughout history. Their native home is the vastness of snowy tundra with plenty beautiful and crystal-clear lakes. Reindeers were the most loyal and reliable friends of the Sami. They were a mean of transportation and a source of skin which was used for clothes and warming of homes. The Sami had a semi-nomadic lifestyle, moving with their herds from one place to another. Apart from deer breeding, their main occupations were hunting, fishing and berry picking. To survive in the harsh conditions of the North, the Sami learned how to control the natural elements. In order to do that, the Sami shamans were performing secret mystical rituals. In the past century, due to the industrial development of the Kola Peninsula, the Sami traditions begun to fade away and a lot of sami families were expelled from their homes. It heavily affected their lifestyle, but recently, some families got back to the traditional way of life – reindeer breeding, fishing, nature worshipping.
